The use of social media marketing by small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in the US continues to grow, according to new data released by BIA/Kelsey. In its latest survey of 1,000 SMBs, more than three-quarters (77.6%) reported using social media to promote their businesses, up fro

Community news organizations often live in a bubble where they believe local merchants value them, that digital delivers eyeballs from out of county, state or even country: folks not likely to walk in the front door to buy something. That view is often bolstered by comments shared at local Kiwanis, Rotary, Elks and other civic gathering places. Researchers know not to listen to what people say, but WATCH WHAT THEY DO! Here's a prime example. If you can't show/demonstrate that your efforts produce better results than Facebook or Twitter, if you can't offer a superior user experience, if you can't differentiate yourself ... well, why should you get those SMB's business? Why would you expect to? Wishful thinking is not a strategy, nor a plan.
